Background of the Study

Employee retention is a critical factor in organizational performance, particularly in the healthcare sector, where skilled personnel directly influence service quality and patient outcomes. Retention strategies, including competitive compensation, career development opportunities, and a positive work environment, are essential in addressing workforce challenges (Bakker & Demerouti, 2023).

Healthcare firms in Jigawa State face high employee turnover rates due to factors such as inadequate pay, limited professional growth, and challenging working conditions. This study evaluates the impact of employee retention strategies on organizational performance.

Statement of the Problem

High employee turnover in healthcare firms in Jigawa State has resulted in reduced productivity, increased recruitment costs, and compromised patient care. Despite efforts to retain employees, organizations often fail to implement effective strategies, leading to persistent performance challenges (Mohammed & Sani, 2024).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To identify employee retention strategies used by healthcare firms in Jigawa State.
  2. To evaluate the impact of these strategies on organizational performance.
  3. To explore the challenges in implementing retention strategies.

Research Questions

  1. What employee retention strategies are employed by healthcare firms in Jigawa State?
  2. How do these strategies affect organizational performance?
  3. What challenges hinder the implementation of retention strategies?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Employee retention strategies significantly improve organizational performance.
  2. Organizations with effective retention strategies experience lower turnover rates.
  3. Implementation challenges reduce the effectiveness of retention strategies.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on healthcare firms in Jigawa State, analyzing retention strategies and performance outcomes between 2023 and 2025. Limitations include differences in organizational practices and restricted access to employee-related data.
